Veridian Connections wanted to implement a cutting edge method to treat stormwater runoff that would also serve as a demonstrative practice. In coordination with AQUA Treatment Technologies, a three celled system was devised that obtained water pumped from the stormwater management pond to the first cell. The planted cell would allow polluted water to be filtered through the sand/gravel medium and herbaceous perennials before being pumped into the neighbouring cells. The treatment process was highlighted by a grid planting scheme that emphasized the three stages of filtration. The first stage shows a greater diversity of planting and by the third stage the grid is ‘broken’ into a naturalized system paralleling the reduction of pollutants into a freshwater system.
